I am sure that at some point in your working career, you wished that you could quit your 9 to 5 day job and have the financial freedom to live your life on your own terms.
The question is how?
Do you just hope for the best, and purchase lottery tickets and scratch cards each week?
The fact remains is that you have more chance of becoming a self-made millionaire, than hitting the jackpot on the lottery!
OK, so you believe that you have what it takes to run your own online business. But before you start brainstorming about your new business venture, there are many factors that you have to consider before you make a start.
Here are some useful tips on how to run an online business, whilst in full-time employment
Don’t Look At Your Full-Time Job As a Burden
When starting an online business, it is important to hit the ground running and the aim is to start generating revenue as soon as possible. But do not look at your full-time job as a burden, or a hindrance.
Your full-time job is enabling you to finance your online business, (unless you have saved up thousands of pounds before starting out) and is covering your monthly living expenses. In fact, having a full-time job takes away a lot of risks when starting an online business.
According to many sources, more than 90% of all online business start-ups fail within the first 120 days.
That is quite an alarming statistic!
There are many reasons why so many online businesses fail, which I will feature in another blog post. I want you to imagine you have an excellent idea for an online business, and the very next day you decide that you are going to give up your day job and hand in your notice. Things don’t go according to plan and 6 months later, you are now in debt with the risk of your property being repossessed. Maybe having your full-time job is not such a burden after all?
Plan Your Day
Planning your day will ensure that you will prioritise the important tasks that need doing. A good time to plan out your day is while you are on the train commuting to work. You could also get up half an hour earlier, and make sure that you plan your day before you start any of your daily activities. This will give your day more structure and will make your day much more productive.
Outsource And Save Time
Outsourcing certain tasks can be a very good cost-effective way to save time. There are many companies out there where you can outsource, web design, logo design, and content development at very affordable rates. But you may say to yourself, the most cost-effective way for you to run your online business is if you do everything yourself.
When you are starting an online business whilst still in full-time employment, your most precious commodity is time!
Focus on doing what you are good at and outsource what you find more challenging and potentially more time-consuming. If you have an important task that needs doing, ask yourself the question. How long will it take if I do it myself?
For example, you want to offer a downloadable eBook on your website to gain more subscribers. You are excellent at graphic design, but not so good at creative writing. You decide to create the eBook yourself, but how long will it take?
Probably a lot longer than if you had outsourced the written content of the eBook, and just focused on the design element.
Health Before Wealth
Time is your most precious commodity when starting an online business, but don’t get caught in the trap of burning the candle at both ends!
Getting an adequate amount of sleep each night is vital to ensure that you are able to concentrate on your online business, alongside concentrating on your full-time job.
If you are not getting enough sleep on a regular basis, you will find that you actually become less productive. You are more likely to make more errors at work, and while you are working on your business if you’re constantly fatigued.
To ensure that you are energised throughout the day, make sure that you are eating natural whole foods that are high in nutrients. Exercise is also a very good way of keeping yourself energised, as well as staying in shape.
Meditation also has great benefits, to ensure that you get the most out of your day. It is proven that meditating on a regular basis, help you to focus more, and concentrate better throughout the day.
Think Of It As a Journey And Enjoy Every Moment
I am sure the reason why you want to start an online business, is so that you have the financial freedom to live a better life than what you currently have. This may be the case but if you don’t appreciate and enjoy the journey, you might not make it from where you are right now, to where you want to be in life.
We are often highly motivated to do the things that we are passionate about and enjoy doing, the same applies to business. I believe that it is very important that you enjoy the work that you do, in order to achieve success!
Running an online business whilst in employment, is not an easy task by any stretch of the imagination. But with the right process in place, you will be able to set up a successful online business, and time is in a position where you can give up your full-time job.
“Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle. As with all matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it.” – Steve Jobs
