reading a blog post

What Does Your Audience Want To Read?

This may seem like an obvious tip, but one that is extremely important. Identify who your target audience is and find out how can you can solve their problems. Remember that you are writing to address your audience’s needs, and not what you want may think will make an interesting read!
Once you have come up with a specific topic and subtopics, it vital that you cover the topic in sufficient detail to help your posts ranking on Google, and so that your readers find value in your post.

Use Keywords for Search Engine Optimization

Search Engine Optimisation or SEO for short is the simple activity of ensuring a website can be found on the search engines for words and phrases relevant to the subject of your content.
There are plugins that you can add to your website that will help improve your blog posts being found on the search engines.
Yoast SEO is a very popular plugin that can be used to help optimise your blog post for the search engines.
There are Keyword Tools out there, that can help you search for optimal keywords to add to your content. Many offer free trials but for long term use, you will probably have to pay a subscription.
Ensure that you tactfully add keywords into your content which will assist in giving your content a boost in the search engines.

Make It Visual

Having good content of value is important, but readers can soon lose interest if they are drowning amongst a sea of words. Inserting images on your blog posts can help to break down the monotony of words and will make your blog post look more appealing. There websites that offer copyright-free images that you can add to your blog posts. Check out Pixabay, or Pixels for free images. I also recommend Shutterstock for paid images. Ensure that the pictures that you use are relevant to your blog post, or post subject headings.

It is proven that visual platforms such as Facebook Timelines, Instagram and Pinterest have high engagement, that get lots of views, shares, and likes. The same formula can be added to your blog posts.

Add Call To Action

Adding a “Call To Action” at the end of your posts encourages the reader to either, view another one of your blog posts, subscribe to your mailing list, or click onto your landing page and potentially purchase your products.
A great “Call To Action’ technique, is to offer a free downloadable gift (lead magnet), and in return, they subscribe onto your mailing list.

Ensure Sure That Your Blog Post Is The Optimal Length

The length of your blog post can have an effect on how it is ranked on the google search engine. Recent research indicates that 1,500 words should be your minimum length if you want your post to rank higher on the search engines. Some experts recommend aiming for 2,000-3,000 words.
When you are writing blog posts, ensure that it has the relevant information and detail, that will give your readers good insight into your topic and to help to improve the ranking of your post on Google. I highly recommend that you write a blog post at various lengths, to find out what is the optimal amount of words your post should have to drive traffic and engagement.

Label, Tag, and Internally Link

When you are adding pictures to your blog post, ensure that the images are relevant to the blog post that you have just written. It is very important that you relabel your images so that it matches the title or the subheading of your blog post. When people search google for images related to the subject of your blog post. Not only will they have a much higher likelihood of finding your labelled image, but this will also direct them to your blog post. In addition to relabelling then names of your blog post images, ensure to add ALT Text before publishing your content.
Internal linking is one of the most important things you can do to rank in the search engines, yet many bloggers completely forget to do this.
Internal linking is simply including links to other pages and to previous posts on your website. For example, your current blog post may cover a topic that you have written about in a previous post. You can add a link from your previous post there is covers the topic in more detail

Social Media Sharing

Promote And Share Your Posts To Your Target Audience

Once you have written your blog post, it is vital that you have a plan on how you will promote it.
There are many ways that you can do this:
Post a link on social media (Facebook, Twitter, Pin Interest)
Paid advertising (Google Ad’s, Facebook)
Share in forums and niche groups on social media
Promote through your current subscriber list
Adding Share Button plugins at the top and bottom of your content is also another great way of getting readers to share your posts. There are many free and paid plugins out there on the market to choose from. A free share plugin that I recommend is Add To Any Share Buttons.
You may also decide to include a “Call To Action” incentive to encourage readers to share your posts amongst their community.

Respond To Your Blog Post Comments

According to recent research, responding to comments on your posts can dramatically increase traffic. The more you respond to readers comments, the greater number of words this will accumulate on the page.
This is great from an SEO-perspective. It also encourages readers to go back to your website, to read your latest posts. Nothing beats  1-2-1 interaction to drive traffic and engagement!
You can also control traffic by adding a link in the comment URL box and directing them to other posts that they might be interested in reading.

Build Up Your Profile On Quora

It’s a great place to answer questions that are relevant to your target audience to build a legitimate following. Quora has over 1.5 million monthly visitors and is a great resource for adding links to your blog posts and articles answers questions.

Conclusion

There are many ways that you can drive traffic to your blog posts, at little or no extra costs. Your blog is a powerful way for your audience to get to know, like and trust you, by adding the content of value. A blog post is an extremely powerful platform that can be used to share the knowledge that can inform and solve your reader’s problems.
